Breast milk study of malaria medicine after childbirth

Drug Pharmacokinetics in Healthy Volunteers

This study measures how a medicine called an 8-aminoquinoline passes into breast milk after birth, to help prevent malaria in new mothers. If you and your baby have normal G6PD levels and you plan to exclusively breastfeed, this trial may be for you.

Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • Both you and your baby need to have a normal G6PD enzyme level (more than 70% of normal) on a special blood test.
  • You must have given birth to a healthy single baby within the last 48 hours.
  • You must have a history of vivax malaria (confirmed in your health records).
  • You must plan to exclusively breastfeed for at least two months after delivery.
