TMS for alcohol craving: a brain stimulation study

This study tests whether a gentle magnetic stimulation (TMS) to the front of the brain can help reduce alcohol cravings. It's designed for people with alcohol dependence who are not in severe withdrawal.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 to 65 years old.
  • You have been diagnosed with alcohol dependence (alcohol use disorder).
  • You are able to understand and agree to the study procedures.
  • You have a normal heart rhythm on an ECG (heart test).
  • You do not have current psychosis (like hallucinations or delusions).
  • You do not have metal in your head, a pacemaker, or other reason you cannot have TMS or MRI.
  • You do not have a serious brain disorder like epilepsy, a past stroke, or multiple sclerosis (a seizure from alcohol withdrawal more than 3 weeks ago is okay).
  • You are not experiencing severe alcohol withdrawal symptoms right now.
