If you are an adult in the ICU at risk of breathing failure, or you’ve been on a ventilator for more than 24 hours and ready to try weaning, this research may be relevant to you.

Who can take part
- You are 18 years old or older.
- You are currently in an intensive care unit (ICU).
- You are at risk for not being able to breathe well on your own (respiratory failure).
- You have been on a breathing machine (mechanical ventilator) for more than 24 hours and are being considered for coming off it (weaning).
- You do not have a 'Do Not Intubate' (DNI) order in your medical chart.
- You do not have a permanent brain or nerve condition that would prevent you from being weaned off the ventilator.
