PET scan study for long COVID symptoms

This study uses a special PET scan to look at inflammation in the body of people with long COVID (symptoms lasting 3+ months after infection). The goal is to understand why symptoms persist and find better ways to help.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You had a positive COVID-19 test (home antigen test or lab test) at least 3 months ago.
  • For the long COVID group: You still have at least 2 unexplained symptoms lasting 2+ months, including fatigue plus a heart/lung or brain symptom.
  • For the control group: You fully recovered from COVID-19 within 4 to 12 weeks with no new health issues after that.
  • You can travel to San Francisco or Sacramento for study visits.
  • You have had no vaccine of any kind in the last 30 days.
