Safety study of JOCOAT for high-risk ACL reconstruction

Surgical Adhesions

This trial tests a new material called JOCOAT to coat a quadriceps tendon graft used in ACL reconstruction. It is for young people ages 15 to 25 who are at high risk for their new ACL graft to fail (for example, because they play a pivoting sport or have loose ligaments). The study checks if the coating is safe and well-tolerated.

Who can take part

  • You are between 15 and 25 years old.
  • You have a torn ACL in one knee and are having your first ACL reconstruction surgery using a quadriceps tendon graft.
  • You have at least two of these: play a high-risk pivoting sport, have a certain type of knee looseness called pivot shift grade 2 or more, or have generally loose ligaments (Beighton score >=4) or knees that hyperextend more than 10 degrees.
  • You have no prior ACL surgery on either knee and have not had surgery on the other knee or nearby joints in the past year.
  • You are not allergic to seaweed-based materials or to sulfur-containing compounds, and do not have certain other medical conditions (like uncontrolled diabetes, bleeding disorders, or active infections).
