This study looks at how physical activity and hormone health affect diabetes risk in young girls. It is for girls ages 8 to 12 who are at risk for PCOS (a hormone condition) and insulin resistance, and who have not yet started their period.

Who can take part

  • Your child must be a girl between 8 and 12 years old who has not yet started her period.
  • Your child must be able to speak and understand English.
  • Your child must have at least one of these risk factors: a mother with PCOS or gestational diabetes, a BMI at or above the 85th percentile, early signs of puberty, or being born small for gestational age.
  • A caregiver (parent or legal guardian) must speak English and have access to a phone or computer for study messages.
  • Your child cannot be taking certain medications for diabetes or hormone issues, or have conditions like type 1 or type 2 diabetes, thyroid problems, or other serious health problems that limit physical activity.
