Testing an accelerated TMS for chronic pain

This study tests an accelerated form of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) — a non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate the brain — to see if it can reduce chronic pain. If you have long-term pain that hasn't responded well to at least two medications, this trial might be a good option for you.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have had chronic pain for at least 12 months.
  • You have tried at least two different types of pain medications that didn't work well.
  • Your average pain over the last two weeks is at least 5 on a 0–10 scale.
  • You are not currently taking high-dose opioids (more than the equivalent of 90 mg of morphine daily).
  • You do not have metal implants in your head, a pacemaker, a history of seizures, or other conditions that would make TMS or MRI unsafe for you.
