Study of fenfluramine to prevent SUDEP in Dravet syndrome

This study tests whether the drug fenfluramine can reduce the risk of sudden unexpected death (SUDEP) in people with Dravet syndrome who have generalized convulsive seizures. It aims to see if a lower dose can still prevent seizures and protect the heart and breathing during a seizure.

Who can take part

  • You have Dravet syndrome (confirmed by a doctor, with or without a specific genetic change).
  • You have had generalized convulsive seizures (full-body shaking seizures).
  • You are not taking stiripentol, certain antidepressants, or other serotonin-related medications.
  • You do not have serious heart, lung, liver, or kidney disease.
  • You have not taken MAOIs, SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAs, St. John's Wort, tryptophan, or dextromethorphan in the last 14 days.
  • You can safely receive midazolam (a medicine used for sedation).
