Exercise and mindfulness for sciatica pain

This study tests a program called Move-MORE that combines exercise and mindfulness to help people with nerve-related leg pain (sciatica) that has lasted at least 3 months. You would use the program at home, attend weekly video sessions for 8 weeks, and complete questionnaires and daily surveys to see if the program improves your pain and quality of life.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • You have had leg pain that travels below the knee (with or without low back pain) for at least 3 months.
  • You are able to stand for 10 minutes at a time.
  • You have daily access to the internet using a phone, tablet, or computer.
  • You are willing to use the Move-MORE program on your own for about 4-5 times each week.
  • You can attend a weekly 2-hour video call (using Zoom) for 8 weeks.
  • You can attend 2 in-person visits at the study site and 1 follow-up visit.
  • You are willing to fill out 18 questionnaires about your pain, quality of life, and experiences during the study.
  • You are willing to wear a small activity monitor (actigraphy device) all day and night during the study (except when bathing or swimming) and keep it charged.
  • You are willing to answer a short daily online survey during the study.
  • You can read, speak, and understand English.
  • You are willing to provide written informed consent.
  • You are at least moderately motivated to participate (score of 4 or more on a 0-10 scale).
