Brain stimulation for epilepsy with damage on both sides

This trial tests a new type of electrical stimulation for people with temporal lobe epilepsy that affects both sides of the brain. It is designed for those whose seizures are not controlled by medication and who are not candidates for surgery or have not improved after surgery.

Who can take part

  • You are between 14 and 65 years old.
  • Your seizures continue despite taking at least two seizure medicines, and you have at least 3 disabling seizures every 3 months (at least one in the last month).
  • You are not a candidate for, or have not improved from, standard epilepsy surgery.
  • A video-EEG monitoring test has shown that your seizures start in both temporal lobes of the brain.
  • An MRI scan shows scarring (sclerosis) in the hippocampus on both sides of the brain.
