Who can take part

  • You must be 18 to 75 years old.
  • You must have a type of rectal cancer called adenocarcinoma that is confirmed by a biopsy.
  • Your tumor must be within about 1.2 inches from the anal opening.
  • You must not have had any prior treatment for rectal cancer.
  • Your cancer must be at a stage where it can be removed by surgery, and not have spread to other parts of the body.
  • You must be in generally good health (able to do daily activities without help).
