Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You are having valve surgery or ascending aorta (the main pipe from your heart) replacement through a cut in your chest.
  • You will have a heart-lung machine connected directly to your heart arteries (central cannulation).
  • Your heart function (left and right pumping strength) is good on recent echo tests.
  • You do not have severe blockages or past heart attacks in your coronary arteries.
