Who can take part

  • You are having planned (elective) heart surgery
  • Your surgical risk score (EuroSCORE II) is under 9%
  • Your planned operation is one of these: valve surgery, coronary bypass, or specific aorta surgery, done through a full or mini chest incision
  • Your heart pumping strength before surgery is at least 40% (LVEF ≥ 40%)
  • Your kidney function is adequate (eGFR is 40 or higher) and you are not on dialysis
  • You can sign informed consent
