  • You have had an acute stroke and are in the emergency department
  • You do not have any condition that would make an MRI or CT scan unsafe for you
  • You do not have symptoms strongly suggesting a subarachnoid hemorrhage
  • You have not started blood thinner or clot-busting medication before the scans are done
