Who can take part

  • Your baby must be between 1 and 90 days old.
  • Your baby must have a high level of 'direct bilirubin' (a type of bile pigment) in the blood.
  • Your baby must be able to have a liver biopsy safely (no bleeding problems).
  • Your baby must not have been diagnosed with biliary atresia or another liver disease before this study.
