Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • You are scheduled for a lung surgery using a video-assisted scope (VATS) on one side.
  • You are not allergic to numbing medicines like bupivacaine, or to opioids or NSAIDs.
  • You do not have a condition that keeps you from getting a nerve block, such as an infection at the site or diabetic nerve damage.
  • You have not had previous chest surgery or have long-term pain conditions like shingles or a tumor that has spread.
