Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older
  • You are scheduled for elective (planned) video-assisted thoracoscopic pneumonectomy—a minimally invasive surgery to remove an entire lung for benign or cancerous disease
  • You do not have a skin infection, allergy to local anesthetics, or blood clotting problems that cannot be corrected
  • You are not on chronic opioid pain medications (long-term narcotic painkillers)
  • You do not have severe heart, liver, or kidney failure
  • You are able and willing to follow study instructions and attend follow-up visits
