Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 80 years old
  • You are scheduled for video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), a type of keyhole lung surgery
  • You do not have an allergy to local anesthetics (numbing medicines)
  • You are not currently taking strong painkillers (opioids) every day
  • You do not have a serious psychiatric condition that would make communication difficult
