Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older and scheduled for a shoulder replacement.
  • You do not have chronic pain conditions like fibromyalgia or complex regional pain syndrome.
  • You have not used strong pain medicines (opioids) daily for the past 3 months.
  • You do not have serious lung problems like COPD or untreated sleep apnea.
  • Your kidney function (GFR) is 60 or higher, and you are not allergic to the numbing medicines used.
  • You can follow up after surgery and do not need a special catheter or injected pain pump.
