Long-term effects of brain stimulation in primary progressive aphasia

This study tests whether brain stimulation can help people with primary progressive aphasia (a type of dementia that mainly affects language) maintain or improve their communication skills over time. Who can take part

  • You must have primary progressive aphasia, where language problems are the main symptom and came on gradually.
  • You need a specific diagnosis of one of the three types: non-fluent, semantic, or logopenic.
  • Your overall health should be relatively stable—rated 1 or less on the Clinical Dementia Rating scale.
  • You cannot have other conditions that might explain your language problems, like a stroke or brain injury.
  • You cannot have epilepsy, a history of seizures, or metal in your body that would interfere with the brain stimulation devices.
  • You cannot be pregnant, breastfeeding, or have active cancer, serious mental illness, or recent substance abuse.
