Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You arrive at the emergency room with very high blood sugar (over 250 mg/dL) and high ketones in your blood.
- You have a form of type 2 diabetes that can lead to DKA, and you've never been told you have type 1 diabetes.
- You can give consent and follow the study procedures in the ER.
- You are not on dialysis for kidney disease, do not have advanced liver disease, are not pregnant, are not allergic to arginine, and are not moderately intoxicated with alcohol.
