Who can take part

  • You must have sickle cell disease (genotypes HbSS or HbSβ0-thalassemia).
  • Your urine must show a moderate amount of protein (albuminuria with UACR between 100 and 2,000 mg/g).
  • Your hemoglobin level must be 5.5 g/dL or higher.
  • You cannot have diabetes.
  • You cannot have an active leg ulcer or a current urinary tract infection.
  • You cannot have had a sickle cell crisis or other severe pain event requiring hospitalization in the last 14 days.
