  • Your baby is a newborn in the NICU and needs a special IV line for medicines, nutrition, or blood draws.
  • The line is placed within the first 28 days after birth.
  • Your baby does not have a major birth defect that could block the line.
  • No active skin infection where the line would go in.
  • No severe bleeding problems that make line placement risky.
  • Your baby cannot have both types of lines at the same time.
