  • You have been in the intensive care unit (ICU) for at least 48 hours
  • You have a central line (a large IV placed in a vein in your neck, chest, or groin) for more than 24 hours
  • You are not pregnant
  • You have never had a bloodstream infection from a central line before
  • Your central line was placed in this hospital (not brought in from another hospital)
