Who can take part

  • Your baby has a central venous catheter (a thin tube placed in a large vein) that has been in place for at least 2 days
  • Your baby has not received antibiotics by injection or IV in the 48 hours before enrollment
  • Your baby does not have an umbilical venous catheter (a catheter placed through the umbilical cord)
  • Your baby does not have a suspected blood clotting disorder or family history of abnormal clotting
