Who can take part

  • Be 18 years old or younger
  • Weigh at least 5 kilograms (about 11 pounds)
  • Be expected to have a high risk of kidney injury after heart surgery based on age, surgery type, and bypass time
  • Not have chronic kidney disease or certain metabolic disorders
  • Not be a preterm infant under 6 months old who was born before 36 weeks
  • Not be currently on a breathing or heart machine before surgery
