Bempedoic acid vs statins for cholesterol in people who struggle with statins

Who can take part

  • You are 40 years old or older.
  • You have never had a heart attack, stroke, or serious heart or blood vessel problem.
  • Your 'bad' cholesterol (LDL) is 130 or higher, or your doctor says you have a high risk of heart disease (7.5% or more over 10 years).
  • You have had trouble taking statin medications (for example, missing doses or stopping because of side effects).
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant; if you could become pregnant, you must use reliable birth control.
  • You are not currently taking certain other cholesterol medicines (like PCSK9 inhibitors, fibrates, or niacin).
