Who can take part
- You are 18 years old or older
- You have squamous cell carcinoma of the head or neck (no other cancer types)
- You are scheduled to receive radiation therapy (IMRT type) with or without chemotherapy
- Your physical health status is rated 0, 1, or 2 on the ECOG scale (able to carry out daily activities)
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding
- You do not have other mouth sores from causes other than cancer or treatment
