Study of AML epigenetic markers in older adults

Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia

This trial looks at certain chemical changes in blood cells of two groups of people aged 60 or older: those having heart surgery (control group) and those with a type of blood cancer called acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who will be treated with a drug called azacitidine. Who can take part

  • You must be 60 years of age or older.
  • You can join either part of the study: as a control if you are scheduled for heart surgery with a normal blood count, or as a participant with AML if you have been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (including AML that arose from a prior bone marrow disorder) and are going to receive azacitidine therapy.
  • You must have health insurance coverage (social security).
  • You must be willing to provide written consent to participate.
  • You cannot have active infections like hepatitis B, hepatitis C, or HIV.
