Who can take part
- You must be 60 years of age or older.
- You can join either part of the study: as a control if you are scheduled for heart surgery with a normal blood count, or as a participant with AML if you have been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (including AML that arose from a prior bone marrow disorder) and are going to receive azacitidine therapy.
- You must have health insurance coverage (social security).
- You must be willing to provide written consent to participate.
- You cannot have active infections like hepatitis B, hepatitis C, or HIV.
