This trial tests whether receiving extra nutrition during your dialysis sessions can help maintain or build muscle over time. It is for people on long-term hemodialysis who have very low urine output and a well-functioning access point (fistula).

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have been on hemodialysis for at least 3 months, 3 times a week, for 4 or more hours each session.
  • Your urine output is less than 100 mL in a day (almost no urine).
  • Your dialysis dose (a measure of how well toxins are removed) is adequate.
  • You have a working AV fistula with good blood flow (measured and above 750 mL/min).
  • You do not have diabetes, active infection, or inflammation.
  • You are not taking certain blood thinners or steroids that cannot be paused.
  • You have not had low blood pressure during dialysis in the last month or been hospitalized in the last 3 months.
  • You are not pregnant and do not have a planned kidney transplant soon.
