- You have had a retinal detachment for the first time in one eye
- Your eye doctor has decided you need scleral buckling surgery (with or without other procedures like vitrectomy or cataract surgery)
- Your other eye is healthy and has not had surgery except for cataract removal, laser, or injections
- You are not pregnant or nursing
