Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • Your rectal cancer is a common type (pMMR/MSS) and it's not too advanced (stage T1 to T3b, no spread to distant organs).
  • The bottom edge of your tumor is within about 2 inches (5 cm) of the anal opening.
  • The tumor is no more than 2 inches long and involves less than two-thirds of the rectum's width.
  • You are willing to receive chemotherapy (XELOX), radiation, and more chemotherapy, and then possibly avoid surgery if the tumor disappears.
