Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You are scheduled for elective (planned) major laparoscopic abdominal surgery under general anesthesia.
- You already have an arterial line (a small tube in an artery) placed for monitoring as part of your care.
- You do not have a significant irregular heartbeat, severe heart valve disease, or a heart defect (shunt).
- You are not pregnant, have no severe right-heart failure, and are not in a condition where giving fluids through a vein would be unsafe.
