Who can take part

  • Your baby must be born at 36 weeks or later (full-term or close to it).
  • Your baby must have had exposure to opioids before birth (from mom’s use, a positive test, or medical records).
  • Your baby must be showing moderate to severe withdrawal symptoms (like a high Finnegan score or needs help with eating, sleeping, or comforting).
  • Your baby cannot have major birth defects, brain injuries, or other serious newborn conditions.
  • Your baby cannot be on breathing support (like oxygen or a breathing machine) at 48 hours old.
  • Your baby must be treated at a hospital that is part of this study, and all criteria must have been met on or after March 25, 2024.
