Preventing hearing loss from cisplatin in head and neck cancer

Who can take part

  • You have head or neck cancer that can be treated with high-dose cisplatin (at least 200 mg/m² total).
  • You are able to give written consent and are 18 or older.
  • Your hearing before treatment is similar in both ears and not worse than a mild loss.
  • You are not getting more than 30 Gy of radiation to the inner ear area.
  • You do not have any ear problems that would prevent the gel from reaching the round window.
