- You are between 18 and 65 years old.
- You are having planned abdominal surgery with general anesthesia and a breathing tube.
- Your weight is healthy (BMI between 18 and 28).
- Your oxygen level is normal (at least 94%) without extra oxygen at rest.
- You have no recent chest infection, lung problems, or chest injuries.
- You do not have severe liver or kidney disease, or a high risk of choking.
