Strength training after a COPD flare-up
Part of Lungs & breathing clinical trials.
This study tests whether doing high-intensity strength training (like lifting weights) helps people recover faster after a serious COPD flare-up that required a hospital stay. It's for people who are stable enough to walk and don't have other major health issues.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You have been diagnosed with COPD and recently hospitalized for a flare-up (within the last 3 weeks).
- You are stable enough to walk for 6 minutes (the 6-minute walk test).
- You do NOT have any other lung diseases besides COPD.
- You do NOT have serious memory or thinking problems.
- You do NOT have severe heart, nerve, or muscle conditions that limit your ability to exercise.

This trial tests whether a breathing and exercise program done at home can lower COPD flare-ups and the chance of needing hospital care. It may help people with more severe COPD manage breathlessness and stay stable.
This trial studies a coordinated (multidisciplinary) care program for people with severe COPD who were recently hospitalized for worsening breathing symptoms. It may help reduce future flare-ups and improve day-to-day breathing by coordinating multiple types of care in a COPD center.
This trial tests whether a maximal strength training program can help people with COPD who are stable. It is looking at people with moderate-to-severe airflow limitation and excludes several other lung and health problems.
This study tests whether short bursts of intense exercise can improve heart and lung function in people with COPD (a chronic lung condition). It aims to see if this type of training is safe and effective.
This trial compares high-intensity interval training (HIIT) with moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) for people with COPD. It looks at how these exercises affect oxygen levels, lung function, and muscle strength, and may help you find the best way to improve your health.
This trial tests whether a special breathing muscle training program, done at home with help from a smartphone app, can help you recover better after a hospital stay for a COPD flare-up.
