Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older.
  • You are scheduled for head and neck cancer surgery (not for thyroid cancer) that is expected to last at least 2 hours.
  • You agree to have an arterial line (a small tube in your wrist) to monitor your blood pressure during surgery.
  • You do not have severe heart failure, very low heart pumping function, or atrial fibrillation.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you are not having emergency surgery.
