Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older and need a permanent pacemaker for a slow heartbeat or heart block.
  • You have a normal heart rhythm (sinus rhythm) at the time of pacemaker placement and have never had atrial fibrillation (a type of irregular heartbeat).
  • You are willing and able to attend follow-up visits for at least 2 years after the procedure.
  • You have not had any previous treatments for atrial fibrillation, such as medications or procedures.
  • You have not had a pacemaker or other heart device implanted before.
