Who can take part
- Age 18 or older
- Diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat) that cannot be treated with rhythm-control medications, confirmed by an ECG within the past year
- Stable heart failure with at least one hospitalization or emergency visit for heart failure in the past 2 years, even while on maximum recommended medications
- Not in the most severe stage of heart failure (NYHA Class IV)
- No recent heart attack, stroke, or major bleeding within the past 3 months
- No previously implanted pacemakers or defibrillators that are pacing the heart more than 40% of the time
