KetoBrain: Brain Energy in Schizophrenia

This study looks at how your brain uses energy if you have early schizophrenia. You will have an MRI scan and possibly receive a special diet (ketogenic) to see if it helps your brain work better.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 35 years old.
  • You have been diagnosed with schizophrenia (first episode).
  • You have not taken strong antipsychotic medication for more than 2 weeks in the past year or in the last 3 months.
  • You are able to have an MRI scan (no metal in your body or severe claustrophobia).
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or had a baby within the last 6 months, and if female, you use effective contraception.
  • You do not have other serious medical conditions like diabetes, epilepsy, or thyroid problems that might interfere.
