Who can take part

  • You are 65 years or older.
  • You are scheduled for hip surgery (like fixing a broken hip or hip replacement).
  • You have not been taking strong pain medicine (opioids) every day for more than a month before surgery.
  • You are able to tell the doctor about your pain level (with a 0–10 scale).
  • You are not allergic to the study medicines (ropivacaine, dexmedetomidine).
