Who can take part

  • You have had a stroke.
  • You can walk at least 30 feet (10 meters) on your own, with or without a walker or cane.
  • Your memory and thinking are fairly good (as measured by a standard test).
  • You do not have blindness in half of your vision (hemianopia).
  • You do not have severe language problems like Wernicke's aphasia (difficulty understanding language) or global aphasia (severe speaking and understanding issues).
  • You have no recent leg injuries or surgeries that make walking hard.
