Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 70 years old.
- You have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) based on a sleep study, with at least 5 breathing pauses per hour and symptoms like daytime sleepiness or snoring, or at least 15 pauses per hour.
- Your blood pressure is either: (a) slightly elevated (120-139/80-89) with no more than 2 heart disease risk factors, or (b) newly diagnosed high blood pressure (140-159/90-99) with no risk factors, or (c) you are on blood pressure medication but still above 120/80, or (d) you have high cardiovascular risk and want CPAP treatment.
- You are able to wear a 24-hour blood pressure monitor.
- You are not already being treated for sleep apnea (such as with CPAP, mouth devices, or surgery).
- You have not had a heart attack, major surgery, or severe sleepiness (Epworth Sleepiness Scale score under 16) in the past 3 months, and you do not have active mental illness or drug/alcohol problems.
