Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 65 years old
  • You are scheduled for elective (planned) surgery on your chest, belly, spine, bones, or skull, using either small incisions (minimally invasive) or open surgery
  • You are generally healthy or have mild to moderate health issues (classified as ASA 1, 2, or 3)
  • You do not have an allergy to the pain medicines used in the pump
  • You do not have a chronic (long-term) pain condition
  • You do not have a serious mental health condition or severe heart, brain, kidney, or liver problems
