Terbinafine for prostate cancer with rising PSA

Recurrent Prostate Cancer

This trial tests if the antifungal drug terbinafine can lower PSA levels in men whose prostate cancer has returned after standard treatments, but who are not yet ready for hormone therapy. It is for men with no distant spread seen on scans except possibly small lymph nodes.

Who can take part

  • You have had all standard treatments for localized prostate cancer (like surgery or radiation) and your cancer has started to come back based on rising PSA.
  • Your testosterone level is normal (not lowered by recent hormone therapy).
  • A CT or bone scan shows no cancer spread to distant organs, and any lymph nodes found on a PSMA PET scan are small.
  • Your PSA is at least 1 ng/mL after prostate removal or at least 2 ng/mL above the lowest point after radiation, confirmed by a second test 2 weeks later.
  • You have decided not to start hormone therapy yet, or your doctor says you do not need it right away.
  • You do not have significant liver disease or lupus (any type).
