Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You are on a breathing machine (ventilator) for 48 to 72 hours after a breathing tube was placed
  • Your blood pressure is stable, with or without low doses of medication
  • You are not making any effort to breathe on your own (you are fully sedated or relaxed)
