Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 75 years old and have been diagnosed with rectal cancer (adenocarcinoma confirmed by biopsy).
- Your tumor is within about 2 inches (5 cm) of the anal opening and has not spread to other organs.
- You have not had previous open surgery on your abdomen. Minimally invasive (laparoscopic or robot-assisted) surgery is allowed.
- Your body mass index (BMI) is less than 28 (roughly normal or slightly overweight).
- You have not had any other cancer recently and are not pregnant or have inflammatory bowel disease.
