Who can take part
- You are scheduled for a planned (not emergency) lower back surgery on your spine bones.
- You are generally healthy as judged by your anesthesiologist (classified as ASA I, II, or III).
- You are not taking blood thinners such as aspirin, warfarin, or apixaban.
- You do not have a bleeding disorder or an allergy to local anesthetics or opioids.
- You have not had prior back surgery on the same area, and you are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You are mentally able to rate your pain level (for example, on a 0–10 scale).
