Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 70 years old.
  • You are on the waiting list for a lung transplant and scheduled for surgery.
  • You are not currently on a breathing machine or heart-lung support before surgery.
  • Your heart pumps at least 40% of blood out each beat, your kidneys work well, and your liver is healthy.
  • You do not have an active infection, including tuberculosis, and are cleared for HIV, hepatitis B, and C.
  • You are physically able to do rehab after surgery and have a family member or friend who can help care for you.
  • You do not smoke, vape, or use intravenous drugs.
